The HSA is an Arts Undergraduate Society association at McGill representing all History students including those pursuing Minors, Majors, Honours and Joint Honours programs as well as any McGill students enrolled in at least one history class. We hold fun events such as Wine and Cheeses, Trivia Nights,  and open forums on current events.  We also publish Historical Discourses, our annual journal for excellence in undergraduate research in History.

Follow our listservs for information on getting involved, or come speak to our executives in their office hours. We also hold open meetings where we solicit ideas and feedback from our members.  The HSA is always looking for new participants, so if you want to help run an event or just come see what’s going on, check us out!  We hope to see you at our upcoming events.

The Exec:

President – Eleanor Musick

Eleanor

mcgill.hsa.president@gmail.com

Hey all! My name is Eleanor Musick, and I am the president of the undergraduate History Students’ Association for the 2017-2018 school year. I’m a U3, finishing my honours degrees in Islamic Studies and History. Within the history department, my studies have been mainly focused around medical histories. I’m really interested in the theoretical frameworks we use to study history: dissecting, opposing, and justifying frameworks constitute some of the most interesting conversations I’ve had at McGill. As a member of the HSA team, I’d like to place more emphasis on helping undergraduates in academic writing and research techniques.

Short Background: I’m originally from Chicago, Illinois–where it is always humid and there are really excellent tortas. My favorite books right now are: Virginia Woolf’s Orlando, Mary Oliver’s Dreamwork, and Edmund White’s The Beautiful Room is Empty– but always looking for suggestions! I have one chipped tooth, from biting down too hard on a heavy fork at the Olive Garden, but it is rarely noticed, or perhaps, rarely remarked upon. Please write me with any good music recommendations you have, or if you want to help me be a better cook (I’m miserable), or most importantly, if you have any questions/suggestions for the HSA this year!

VP External/Academic Affairs – Rachel Almuli

Contact: mcgill.hsa.external@gmail.com

Hello hello history students, my name is Rachel Almuli and I’m your VP External/Academic! I’m a U2 Honours History student with a minor in Political Science, and unsurprisingly my research interests revolve around what the laws and politics of a period can tell us about the people living in them. My non-academic interests include sitcoms, fantasy books, baking, and plants. I’m very excited to meet you all and work with the HSA this year, so please do stop by my office hours or message me anytime

While I am not frantically writing essays at McLennan, some of my passions include drinking hot chocolate, shopping and experimenting from my copy of Julia Child’s ‘Mastering the Art of French Cooking’! Please feel free to contact me via the email listed above or reach out to me on campus 🙂

Hi! My name is Linnea Kornhauser and I’m a U2 student working on an honours in History with a double minor in Politics, Law and Society and Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies. I’m mostly interested in modern American history with a focus on the American Revolution and Civil War. When I’m not snuggling with my double doodle, Maisie, I’m usually curled up with a good book or trying to get tickets to Hamilton. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or suggestions!

Contact: mcgill.hsa.events@gmail.com or lanya.feng@mail.mcgill.ca

Hello! My name is Lanya Feng, and I am your VP Events. I am a U1 History and Political Science student from Guangzhou, China. I am thrilled to be a part of the team and excited to plan events for all of you! I have vast interests in many aspects of history and am trying to narrow them down. Currently, I am focusing on wars, revolutions, and patterns of violence throughout history. I particularly interested in how certain event is framed differently within cultural contexts(especially between the East and the West) and how this difference in narration shaped public understanding of the past and present. Besides history, I enjoy running, drawing/painting, and having conversations over tea. If you have any question/suggestion or want to grab tea with me(I have a great collection 😉 I look forward in meeting you all!
