HSA Essay Writing Workshop

Tuesday, March 6th, 4pm. Leacock.

Getting sick of looking at B’s (or C’s!) and can’t seem to catch that elusive A?

Want to know where your writing should be heading over the next few years?

Curious about what it takes to write academic work worthy of publishing?

Want to know the most common essay mistakes? What ticks prof’s off the most?

Come to the HSA’s Writing Workshop!

We especially encourage 1st and 2nd year History students to attend, but as always, everyone is welcome.

Our Panel:

Historical Discourses Co-Editor-in-Chief J.R. Lalancette will be talking about overcoming writer’s block, brainstorming, and keeping a chronology.

Historical Discourses Co-Editor-in-Chief Alex Wapia will be talking about primary sources and how to use them to your advantage.

HSA VP Academic/External Jon Cohen will be talking about structuring your essay and keeping it concise.

History Department Teaching Assistant Alexander Deguise will also be presenting, topic TBA.

Q&A to follow

All 4 of these lovely folks have written and seen a lot of undergraduate essays in their time. This is an opportunity for upper year students who have been around the essay-writing-block a few times to impart their hard-earned knowledge. We promise to keep things moving, and there may even be cookies.

Come ask us your questions!
