Last year, the History Students’ Association (HSA) hosted a forum to offer a unique perspective on the effects and outcomes of the BP Gulf Oil Spill:

Due to the extremely positive feedback, the event will be returning this year in a larger and grander fashion thanks to the collaborative efforts between the HSA, Middle East Studies Students’ Association (MESSA) and the Political Science Students’ Association (PSSA).

Your respective HSA, MESSA and PSSA executive teams would like to formally invite you to this year’s speaker forum:

History in the Making: Perspectives on the Arab Spring and European Fall

Professors from each department speaking about the events that have recently transpired in parts of Africa, the Middle East and Europe. Our goal is to once again offer unique and alternative perspectives on important events that are occurring during our own lifetime.

Our distinguished panel will include:

Professor Jon Soske, Assistant Professor of Asian and African History

Professor Khalid Mustafa Medani, Assistant Professor, Joint appointment Political Science/Islamic Studies

Professor Malek Abisaab, Assistant Professor, Joint appointment Islamic Studies/History

And we are pleased to welcome special guest Fadi Hammoud, journalist and author. Mr. Hammoud is an independent journalist of Lebanese origin who specializes in Middle Eastern affairs. He base worked in Lebanon for 23 years in Arab-language and English-language media, including daily newspapers, weekly magazines and TV stations. He has also translated several books on the region.

So please join us for our public forum from 6:30-8:00 PM on Wednesday, November 23rd in Leacock 219. Not only will the speaker set feature a Question & Answer session, but the event will be followed by a Wine & Cheese hosted by all three Student Associations in Arts 160 from 8:00-9:30 PM!

Hope to see many of you there!
